This simple vegan oat milk is so DELICIOUS, creamy, and only uses 5 ingredients to make in just 10 Minutes. No need to buy Oat Milk anymore once you taste this healthy homemade recipe.

Oat milk is one of my favourites plant-based milk. Its super creamy and such a simple vegan milk to make at home. Its such a popular dairy free alternative that works well in coffee, with cereal, ice cream, you can even now buy oat milk creamer!

How to make homemade oat milk

Oat milk is extremely easy to make at home! Essentially, it is just blended oats that are strained to form the most creamy and delicious oat milk. You can strain the oat milk with a nut bag or use a kitchen strainer / sieve. Follow these quick steps below; (Please note the full recipe with exact measurements and detailed steps can be found on the recipe card at the bottom of this page 😊)

  1. Add rolled oats, filtered water, Medjool dates, sea salt and vanilla extract the ingredients into the processor jug & blend for 30 seconds.
  2. Pour the oat milk mixture into a nut bag/muslin cloth or fine strainer if you do not have a nut bag. Using both hands strain as much oat milk out of the nut bag or strainer into a large bowl
  3. Transfer the oat milk into a jug, place a funnel over your air tight bottle, then fill up with the fresh homemade vegan oat milk!

Which dairy free milk is best in coffee

Oat milk is one of the best dairy free milk alternatives to use in coffee due to its thick and creamy characteristics. If you like a creamy frothy coffee foam the store-bought barista style coffee is the best type of oat milk to use.  Barista style oat milk has a higher fat content making it extra creamy giving you full control over the density and performance of your micro foam, which is also great for latte art! A great brand recommendation for barista oat milk is Califia Farms Barista Blend. It’s Made with whole rolled, gluten free oats grown the oat milk and has no gums or stabilizers. Homemade oatmilk can work great in Ice coffees though, like my Dalgona Coffee recipe, it’s a must try super satisfying coffee beverage!

How long does homemade oat milk last

Homemade oat milk will last 4 – 5 days refrigerated. Storing the oat milk in an airtight jar will help to keep the dairy free milk fresh for longer. Store bought Oat milk has a longer shelf life due to the additives and preservatives added to the milk.

Can oat milk be used in cooking

Oat milk is quite a versatile vegan milk as you can use it in an array of recipes such as iced coffee drinks, ice cream, cookies, pancakes, thickening agent for sauces and stews, smoothies etc. However homemade oat milk does not boil well on its own as it becomes quite thick and separates.

What can I do with oat milk pulp?

Once you strain your homemade oat milk you are left with the blended oat pulp. Making oat milk is great as it’s a zero-waste recipe. The oat pulp is so versatile as it can be used for so many baking recipes and also for DIY skin care! See some ideas below of how you can use your left over pulp;

Is homemade oat milk healthy

Oat milk is incredibly health an nutritious as its low in fat, sugar but high in fibre. The Homemade version is even more healthier as you can control the what ingredients you put into the milk, just like this simple five ingredient recipe.

Is oat milk gluten free

Oat milk can be gluten free however it needs to be made with certified gluten free oats to ensure this. Most supermarkets stock gluten free porridge oats in the free from sections or special diet / allergy isles.

Is oat milk keto

As oat milk is essentially made up of oats, which are high in carbohydrates, so it’s not a great plant based milk option if following a keto diet and lifestyle. Almond milk is one of the best recommended Keto compliant milks as it has a low carb density. 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk has on average 1 gram of carbohydrates.

Is oat milk vegan

Oat milk is completely dairy and lactose free. Making it a great alternative to cows milk for anyone following the vegan / plant based lifestyle or anyone wanting a healthier lighter option for milk.

Helpful Tips for making oat milk at home  

  • Oat milk will keep for 4-5 days in the fridge
  • Homemade Oat milk naturally separates as it does not have preservatives, so shake well before use
  • Airtight bottles are the best vessel to store the milk as it helps to preserve the oat milk for longer
  • Do you need to pre-soak the oats I advance? No I’ve tried both methods and got similar results so to save time blend the oats straight away
  • Jumbo rolled oats are the best type of oats to use when making homemade oat milk. I do not recommend using steel cut oats or pre blended instant oats
  • Don’t over blend the oats I found 30 seconds is the sweet spot timing wise to yield the best creamy oat milk!
  • You can add different ingredients to oat milk to add sweetness and flavour. Such as coco powder, algave syrup, dates, vanilla, turmeric, matcha etc.
  • Use certified gluten free rolled oats, if you would like the oat milk to be gluten free
  • You can use 3 different tools for straining the milk from the oat pulp: a nut bag, muslin cloth or a fine kitchen strainer.
  • Ensure to use a powerful blender for blitzing the oats

Ingredients

  • Organic Rolled Oats – 200g / 2 x cups
  • Filtered water – 900ml / 4 x cups
  • Medjool Dates – 2 – 4 (for sweetness)
  • Sea Salt – a pinch
  • Vanilla extract – tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Add rolled oats, filtered water, Medjool dates, sea salt and vanilla extract the ingredients into a food processor jug & blend for 30 seconds.
  2. Pour the oat milk mixture into a nut bag/muslin cloth, or fine strainer if you do not have a nut bag. Using both hands strain as much oat milk out of the nut bag or strainer into a large bowl.

Loaded egg breakfast tacos is one of my favourite ways to start the day. Simply fry eggs sunny-side up and place on top of slightly toasted tortilla bread. Add your favourite toppings for a notorious breakfast! I added sliced avocados, black beans, green chillies, coriander and pickled onions – pretty delicious! 😉
 
I used @purelyorganiceggs for this recipe – those yolks 😍 they’re such great quality, and knowing that they’re from free range hens that spend their days foraging through natural grass pastures and herbs is even better.

•Raw King Prawns/Shrimp - 550g
•Garlic - 4 x cloves
•Butter - 180g
•Lemon Pepper - 3 x tablespoons
•Lemon Juice - 1 x lemon
•Chopped Fresh Parsley - 2 x handful's
•Optional - Serve with toasted sourdough bread and lemon wedges
•
1) Preheat a large pan to a medium high heat. Add the butter to the pan, sautee the garlic for 2 minutes. Add the raw shrimp, lemon pepper seasoning , lemon juice and additional salt/pepper to taste if required. Cook for a further 3-4 minutes until the shrimp is cooked

2) Top the prawns with the chopped parsley. Serve with toasted sourdough bread 🥖  for dipping 😋

Ingredients

Sweet potatoes x 2-3 (chopped)
Bell peppers x 2 (Thinly sliced)
Garlic cloves x 3 (finely chopped)
Ginger 2 tablespoons (Finley sliced)
Onion x 1 (finely chopped)
Lemongrass stalk x 1
Red curry paste x 200g
Coconut cream (solid) x 200g
Fish Sauce 2 x tablespoons
Stir fry vegetables 2 x handfuls
Vegetable oil x 3 tablespoons
Vegetable or chicken bouillon/stock – x 2 tablespoons
Brown sugar x 1 teaspoon
Optional garnishes – Limes, spring onions, coriander & black sesame seeds

Method
1)Pour 3 x tablespoons of vegetable oil into a medium heated deep pan/pot. Add in sweet potatoes, onion, ginger, lemongrass, and red curry paste to the, stirring continuously for 5 minutes.
.
2)Then add 500ml of boiling water, chopped coconut cream solid, fish sauce, vegetable/chicken bouillon stock, sugar, bell peppers into the pan. Stir all the ingredients until a creamy red sauce forms.
.
3)Simmer on a low heat for 10 minutes, then add your stir fry veggies and cook for a further 5 minutes approximately until the sweet potatoes are tender.

4)Serve with rice

. Olive oil - 3 x tablespoons
. Casarache pasta - 300g
. Chicken Breast - 3 to 4 fillets finely sliced
. Pesto - 2-3 x tablespoons
. Single cream - 300ml
. Red onion - 1 x finely chopped
. Chesnut mushrooms - 150g finely chopped
. Grated cheddar - 250g
. Garlic cloves - 4 x finely chopped
. Dried parsley - 2 tablespoons
. Fresh Basil - 1 x handful finely chopped
. Seasoning to taste - Salt/pepper/dried mixed herbs
.
. 1) Add the pasta to a pot of salted boiling water. Boil for 10-12 minutes until the pasta is cooked.

. 2) Add 2 x tablespoons of olive oil & chicken to a hot preheated pan, cook for 3-4 minutes. Season the chicken whilst stir-frying, then remove from the pan and keep to the side.

. 3) Add a tablespoon of olive oil to the now empty pan. Saute the mushrooms, onions and garlic until soft, cook at a medium high heat.

. 4) Place the chicken, pesto, single cream, grated cheddar cheese into the pan, stir until the sauce is combined. Then add the pasta & mix . Add some of the pasta water  to thin the sauce out to your preferred consistency.

. 5) Top with parmasan cheese and chopped basil 🌿

•Makes 6 Pancakes

· Plain Flour -140g
· Baking soda/bicarbonate soda - 1 teaspoon
· Baking Powder -1 teaspoon
· Salt - ½ teaspoon · . Caster Sugar - 2 tablespoons . Almond Milk (or milk of your choice) -130ml · Egg whites – 2 x eggs
· Egg yolk – 1
· Unsalted Butter - 2 tablespoon melted · Milk Chocolate Chips – 100g
· Banana - 1 x small ripe banana mashed
· Maple Syrup

1) Pre heat your flat top griddle pan or flat frying pan to a medium high heat setting on your stove/grill.
.
2) Sieve the flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and sugar into a large bowl. In a separate bowl whisk together your mashed bananas , milk, melted butter and egg yolk until combined. Then gently fold in your separated egg whites.
.
3) Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and mix with a plastic spatula or wooden spoon in a folding motion until all the pancake batter is combined. Cover the bowl with cling film and leave the mixture to rest for 15 minutes.
.
4) Grease your frying pan/flattop grill with a thin layer of butter. Use a ladle or large serving spoon to add the pancake batter to the pan. Leave for 2-3 minutes until you see the pancakes rise and start to bubble slightly, then sprinkle a small amount of chocolate chips on top of the pancake surface.
.
5) One you have added your chocolate chips leave for another minute. Then flip the pancakes over to cook on the other side for an additional 1-2 minutes.
.
6) Remove from the pan, stack on a plate and serve with sliced bananas, MORE CHOCLATE CHIPS 😊 and finally drizzle with some Maple Syrup!

For the chicken 🍗:
✅ Chicken Breast or Chicken Thighs (cut into chunks)
✅ Italian Seasoning (Dried herbs mix)
✅Lemon juice 🍋

For the salad:
✅Halloumi Cheese ✅Romaine lettuce 🥬 ✅ Olives ✅ Green Bell Peppers ✅ Cherry tomatoes 🍅 ✅ Red onions 🧅 ✅ Cucumbers 🥒 ✅🍶Your Favourite Greek Salad dressing •
•🔵Simply Marinade the chicken with the seasonings in a large bowl. Add some lemon juice and olive oil, then leave to marinade overnight or at least 20 minutes.
•🔵Chop Halloumi into 1 inch thick cubes, drizzle with olive oil and grill on each side for a few seconds. Don’t overcook as the Halloumi will go rubbery!
•🔵Add your salad ingredients to a serving bowl, mix in your grilled chicken & Halloumi 🧀. Pour over your 🥗 salad dressing then tuck in!😋
