Air fryer garlic bread in a basket

Air fryer Garlic Bread is a classic and this homemade recipe tastes AMAZING! The perfect side dish which is so quick and easy to make! Made with a French baguette, garlic butter and freshly chopped herbs. You can add cheese or even freeze in advance and cook from frozen!

Air fryer garlic bread on a plate

Where did garlic bread originate from?

The popular side dish garlic bread can often be found in most restaurants and has origins in Italy. However, garlic bread as we know it, is said to be an American adaptation of authentic Italian bruschetta. Bruschetta is bread which has toppings, most commonly topped with fresh chopped tomatoes seasoned with olive oil, salt, balsamic vinegar and fresh basil. Homemade garlic bread can be made in the air fryer baked, air fried or grilled!

Can you air fry bread

Can you air fry bread, well the simple answer is YES! Air fryers work similar to ovens with a heating element and fan which evenly distributes the air within an air fryer. You can make so many bread dishes in a air fryer, here are some examples:

  • Air fryer croutons – HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE CROUTONS IN AN AIR FRYER
  • Pull apart bread
  • Garlic nan bread
  • Homemade pizza
  • Bagels
  • Air fried whole loafs of bread
  • French baguettes
  • Toast
  • Flat bread
  • Pittas

How to make homemade garlic butter

A great garlic butter recipe is the key to making the best homemade air fryer garlic bread! You can make garlic butter by using fresh or dried herbs however I find fresh herbs taste and look the best! Garlic butter can also sometimes be made with just olive oil for garlic bread however I like to mix garlic butter with olive oil for a rich indulgent flavour. Also adding grated parmesan cheese adds to the saltiness and flavour of the bread.

  • garlic butter ingredients fresh and homemade
  • Fresh homemade garlic butter in a bowl

Does garlic bread need to be refrigerated

You can store uncooked garlic bread ahead of time in the fridge however you need to ensure the bread is sealed / covered completely to ensure the bread does not dry and go stale. Garlic bread cooks relatively quickly when cooked from chilled. You can also store excess garlic butter in the fridge or freezer to use at another time. Garlic butter can be a great addition to use in other cooking, for example brushed on steak or mixed into a pasta dish for extra flavour.

What to eat with air fryer garlic bread

A perfect side dish, garlic bread works well with many dishes. The most popular way to serve garlic bread is alongside popular Italian dishes such as lasagne, spaghetti bolognese, chicken parmesan. However, garlic bread works well as a side with other dishes such as

Can you freeze air fryer garlic bread

You can freeze garlic breads which is useful so that you can have a batch prepped in advance or make in bulk if you have an event or dinner party. I like to keep my individually sliced garlic bread pieces in a freezer friendly food bag or in foil when freezing. The garlic bread should not be cooked before freezing but the garlic butter should be added to the bread slices.

H3 How to cook frozen garlic bread in air fryer

Again its pretty simple to air fry garlic bread even straight from frozen, just add the garlic bread pieces straight from the freezer and air fry for 8 minutes at 340°F/170°C.

What is chicken shawarma

Chicken shawarma is chicken that has been marinated in the middle eastern, Lebanese shawarma spice mix. The chicken is most commonly grilled or added to a kebab rotisserie but this chicken shawarma rice bowl recipe works well in the air fryer too!

What do you serve with chicken shawarma

You can serve chicken shawarma with an array of accompanying dishes. I love to serve air fryer chicken shawarma in a rice bowl with hummus and salad. Shawarma is also often paired with garlic sauce as a flavourful creamy condiment. Here are some other popular ways to serve air fryer chicken shawarma:

  • Wraps
  • Sandwiches
  • Inside a pitta
  • Kebabs
  • Meal prep salad bowls

Where is chicken shawarma from

Chicken shawarma originates form the middle eastern country of Lebanon.

What is shawarma spice

Shawarma spice is the foundation seasoning that brings together shawarma marinades. The aromatic dried spice blend can be used to marinate chicken, lamb, and even fish and vegetables. Shawarma spice can be purchased but I like to make my own as it so easy to do and can be used for other dishes when batch made in bulk. Essentially all you need to do is mix the following ground spices to create shawarma spice. (Get the FULL recipe including measurements + cooking instructions at the bottom of this page)

  • Allspice
  • Black pepper
  • Cinnamon
  • Cumin
  • Cardamon
  • Ginger
  • Chilli powder
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Ground coriander
  • chicken shawarma spices on a plate
  • homemade shawarma spice

Is chicken shawarma healthy

Full of protein and healthier when air fried or grilled / barbequed, chicken shawarma is defiantly a healthy addition to your meal! It can be even healthier when using lean chicken breast fillets rather than thighs to reduce the amount of saturated fat per serving.

How to marinate chicken shawarma

To marinate chicken with shawarma, add chicken thighs to a large bowl, pour over the fresh lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, salt, and then mix. Once combined mix in shawarma dried spice until all the chicken pieces are fully coated in the marinade. At this stage you can marinate the chicken overnight for extra flavour or air fry straight away!

What temperature to cook chicken thighs in an air fryer

For tender juicy air fryer chicken thighs, I find they cook best at 170c / 340f.

How long to cook boneless chicken thighs in an air fryer

Boneless chicken thighs cook a lot quicker in the air fryer compared to when the bone is still inside the thigh. For the best results I like to air fry boneless chicken thighs for 18 minutes. If you unsure about whether chicken is cooked I highly recommend buying an affordable kitchen prob to confirm accurate internal temps of cooked food. The chicken should be 75c/167f or over in temperature once fully cooked.

How to make air fryer chicken shawarma thighs

Making chicken shawarma is quick and easy to do, once the chicken is marinated in the shawarma spice it’s placed into the air fryer basket to air fry until cooked!

What is a rice bowl

A rice bowl is a combination of ingredients paired with rice, similar to a buddha bowl. They are usually great for lunch when topped with proteins, vegetables, hummus, sauces, seeds and salads.

How to make a rice bowl

To assemble a chicken shawarma rice bowl spread spoonful’s of hummus at the base of the bowl, add rice to the other side of the bowl, then top with sliced pieces of chicken shawarma and salad. You can also add your favourite dressing on top too! Garlic yogurt & chilli sauce works quite well with the shawarma flavours.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AN AIR FRYER

Air frying is such a great way of cooking food! The popular small counter top electric air fryer convection oven, mimics the process of “frying food” without having to deep fry in oil! Here are some of the top benefits of cooking with an air fryer;

  • Healthier – Air frying is a much healthier alternative to deep or shallow frying food. Up to 80% less fat can be achieved in certain air fried meals by using this cooking method rather than frying conventionally in oil.
  • Even cooking – Because the fan in an air fryer circulates at a high speed within a small space, food tends to crisp up quicker and cook evenly throughout.
  • Time efficient –  Although some air fryers have a pre heat setting, air fryers generally heat up very quickly. Due to their size, cook times are substantially lower compared to an oven, which can take up to 15 minutes to pre heat fully and come up to temperature.
  • Easy to use – Using Air fryers is very easy and is a great kitchen tool for cooks that might not be as confident in the kitchen.
  • Saves space – As air fryers are small and portable, they are great for people who may not have access to a fully functioning kitchen. For example a college student or someone who lives in a studio apartment where you may not have access to a full size oven.
  • Versatility – Air fryers are probably the most versatile kitchen gadgets available. Not only can you air fry food, you can also bake, grill, toast, steam and roast ingredients in the air fryer.

Chocolate granola is so delicious! Pairing the granola with chocolate protein powder takes the flavour to another level whist also being a high source of protein. Here’s how you make it! (scroll to the bottom of this blog post for the full recipe including measurements and cook times via the recipe card)

  • Add oats, hazelnuts & chocolate protein powder to a large bowl, then mix.
  • In a smaller bowl whisk together the melted coconut oil, maple syrup, peanut butter and vanilla extract. Once combined pour over the dry hazelnut, oats and protein powder mixture. Stir the mixture with a large spoon until combined.
  • Pour the granola mixture directly into your air fryer basket, no need to line the base (it’s okay if some of the granola hits the bottom of the air fryer basket)
  • Whilst air frying remember to use a fork to separate the granola mixture through out the cook time, to ensure even cooking and prevent the top layer from burning.
  • Remove the granola from the air fryer by pouring over a grease proof / parchment paper lined oven tray. Once cooled sprinkle the chocolate chips and coconut flakes over the granola.

WHAT AIR FRYER DO I USE?

I’ve tested quite a few air fryers and one of my favourites is the Instant Vortex 4-in-1 Air Fryer, 6 Quart/ 5.L. I love the size of this model and the large square shape air fryer basket, i find you can fit more food in air fryers shaped like this. The vortex air fryer comes with 4 built in smart programs in 1 appliance (air fry, roast, bake and reheat) so it’s super versatile! I especially love how easy the fryer basket is to clean as the drip tray on the base of the basket is removable.

A great source of protein to pair with granola is plain Greek yogurt.

FREQUENTLY ASKED NUTRITIONAL QUESTIONS ABOUT CHOCOLATE PROTEIN GRANOLA

Is granola keto friendly

Granola is mostly not keto friendly due to the high amount of net carbohydrates in the rolled oats and sugar. A good alternative for keto granola would be to remove the oats and use a mixture of wholesome seeds and nuts for texture, with the addition of a sugar free sweetener.

Is granola vegan

Granola can be vegan as long as all the ingredients are plant based. For this recipe swap the milk whey chocolate protein for a vegan protein powder, e.g pea protein.

What nutrients are in granola

Granola is a great source of fibre and highly nutritious and can contain a range of macronutrients such as protein, fibre, vitamin E, iron, magnesium and zink.

How many calories are in chocolate granola

There are 393 calories in this air fryer chocolate and hazelnut granola recipe per serving.
